 Cultural survival is not about preservation, sequestering indigenous peoples in enclaves like some sort of zoological specimens. Change itself does not destroy a culture. All societies are constantly evolving. Indeed a culture survives when it has enough confidence in its past and enough say in its future to maintain its spirit and essence through all the changes it will inevitably undergo.

In Africa the practice of Tree worship is based on the belief that Ancestor spirits live in the Trees and forests as well as any other natural formations that are considered peaceful.

Ayan/Anya was an Orisa worshiped by the Ancestors of the W/African people and thereby considered as the God of drum and music. Drums like Bata, Sekere, Sakara, and Gangan, Agahu, Dundun, Djembe etc… These Drums are used in  religious worship and some are strictly attached to ritual and ceremonial events. In any case, it is traditionally compulsory to appease Ayan/Anya invented and endowed the drum with visible and invisible forces.

Drums among Africans are products carved from trees as one of the natural landmarks that as symbols through which they communicate spiritual forces. It is the belief of the W/African people that Drums therefore carry spiritual traits inherent in the tree they are made from and this makes their use important within the religious practices in which they feature within the community. The natural landmarks which Drums are made from are therefore identified as a form of symbolic ritual aesthetics in any ritual practices among the people within their environment.

Orunmila=Ifa !!!The Mystery System…

Ifa is not merely a collection of Verses, Proverbs, Parables and Anecdotes. Ifa is the embodiment of the totality of human existence.

Orunmila is an Orisha of Wisdom, Knowledge, and Divination. This source of knowledge is believed to have a keen understanding of the human form and of purity, praised as being often more effective than other remedies. Orunmila is recognized as a primordial heavenly beings (Irunmole) that was present both at the beginning of creation and then again among-st them as a priest that taught an advanced form of spiritual knowledge and ethics, during visits to earth in physical form or through his disciples. Orunmila is the spirit of wisdom among the Irunmole and the divinity of destiny and prophecy.  It was also Orunmila who carried Ifá (the wisdom of God) to Earth. Orunmila is considered a sage, recognizing that God placed Ori (intuitive knowledge) as prime Orisha. It is Ori who can intercede and affect the reality of a person much closer than any Orisha.

The word derives from an Ayizo word referring to “Mysterious Forces or Powers that govern the world and the lives of those who reside within it, but also a range of artistic forms that function in conjunction with these Vodou energies. In the historical consciousness of the Haitians Vodou has an extraordinary meaning and as well played a role in Bois Kayiman, and in the ensuing revolution. This has made the Vodou into a kind of national religion of Haiti. Thus today Vodou has a certain military symbolism, which is not found in other Afro-American religions.

In Haiti, practitioners occasionally use “Vodou” to refer to Haitian religion generically, but it is more common for practitioners to refer to themselves as those who “serve the spirits”

CANDOMBLE:  Brazilian slaves came from a number of African geographic regions and ethnic groups, including Igbo, Yoruba, Fon, Ewe, Kongo, and Bantu…


CANDOMBLE:  (Dance in honor of the Gods) is a syncretic religion, practiced mainly in Brazil by the “Povo De Santo” (People of the Saint), among people of African descent and sometimes of mixed race. Candomble officially originated in Salvador, Bahia at the beginning of the 19th century, when the first temple was founded. Although Candomble is practiced primarily in Brazil, it is also practiced in other Latin American countries, including Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Colombia, having  many followers.

Blood is not just Blood, it is a Sacred essence. Blood that flows to the breast to give Mother’s milk, Blood that flows to the testicles to bring the Sperm of life.

***Prayer is a form of communication with a Deity or other Spiritual being. Words addressed to a deity usually offer praise or seek guidance, blessing, forgiveness, fertility, victory, or protection. Like prayer, sacrifice is a form of communication with a deity for similar purposes. The word itself means “to make holy.” As distinct from prayer, sacrificial offerings include objects of value and symbolic significance that are given to the gods to earn their favor. The gifts can take many forms, becoming sacred themselves through ritual consecration. The Gods might be offered the most desirable foods or provided with the finest vessels, carvings, tools, and weapons. Historians, however, have often regarded blood sacrifice as the most powerful way to appease the Gods. It was not unusual for societies to engage in both animal and human sacrifice, although the historical trend has been toward a sharp reduction in the latter…

== Physical: The beads the waistband is made up of is rubbed with some local herb or made up of some healing stone that is believed to stop menstrual pains or cramps, lower abdominal problems, or womb malfunction. The usage of beads especially waist bead in W/Africa is widespread across the various nationalities that make up the nation. There are similarities and peculiarities in their usage.
